Hudson - Sorry I am Sold!!

To celebrate the New Year, I would like to offer an older piece, his name is Hudson, a polar bear, created from warm white alpaca with needle felted details.

He has been living in my cabinet since 2006 and is an award winning bear, taking out the "Professional Modern Artist Bear" and "Bear of Show" at the 2006 Sydney Teddy Bear Fair.

He will come complete with his original swing tag, wooden teddy hang tag and medallion awarded for winning his category.

He also was awarded a beautiful engraved crystal trophy which is not included, but I will include a framed photograph featuring Hudson and his awards. I only have a select few older style bears that I have kept, seeing I have not been able to offer much lately and after a great deal of thought I have decided to offer Hudson for adoption.

Hudson is approximately 22cm ( 9 inches ) seated 29cm ( 11 inches ) stretched out, he is designed to sit with bent legs and his D.O.B is 15 January 2006.

Once again to be fair, enquiries will be filed in the order they are received, and the first in has the option to purchase him.

He is a brand new design catering for both the collectors and the makers and is therefore available as a pattern too.
Each elephant that I create is a OOAK in a Series, not one will be the same as I will be using hand dyed mohair, and different finishings on each individual one.
This guy is my prototype, and will appear on the cover of each pattern, he is approximately 25cm ( 10 inches ) standing, he is designed to sit, has a wobblejoint head, wired trunk and tail, blue/aubergine glass eyes with needle felted details.

Well a lovely surprise for me, my new puppy, "Harley" arrived 3 weeks earlier than was expected and of course that has thrown all my recent plans into complete chaos!!

I had planned to release a new pattern at this years Western Australian Craft, Quilt & Stitch Show, 5th-7th August 2011 ( details below ).

I have the sample just about complete and hoped to to have a few more "Snuffles" done on time, but thanks to my new bundle of fur, I really think I will be pushing it!!!!

At least I will have one sample to display at the show, he is a new elephant design in a long hand dyed string mohair with a wired trunk and tail.

I will post him here as soon as he is ready for adoption and notify the "Special Sneak Peek" members.

Commissioned Orders for 2011

Hi again to all our Russell Bears members,
Not long to go now before everyone winds down for the holidays, so I just thought I would share some thoughts I have been considering for some time now regarding my commissioned orders.

This year especially, I have not created many new pieces to offer at shows or even on my website as I have been extremely busy with orders.
Seeing that 2011 is now fully booked out, I have decided not to take any more orders after that, and those who have already secured their positions, will be the last commissioned orders that I will be creating for a while.

If you already have a 2011 order position, would you please be so kind as to contact me at your convenience so we can confirm your booking and I can organize my schedule for next year. I would really appreciate it :-)
If you wish to cancel an order, that is fine too as I can offer it to the next collector on the waiting list.

However, the good news is, from now on I will be keeping a "REQUEST LIST", meaning, you are welcome to put your name down for a particular piece, and you will be individually informed as soon as one is coming up for adoption.

Those already on the waiting list for commissioned orders will have first option if a position becomes available in 2011, as well as being the first registered on my new "REQUEST LIST", so please email me with your choice of bear or critter and I will add you asap.
You can change your mind at any time and be removed, or even register for 2 or more pieces that you would be interested in, I will keep all "REQUESTS" on record in the order they are received in a private file.

I hope this makes sense to you all and hopefully I can be a bit more productive in the future with new designs and more creations to go around.

With Christmas only a couple of months away, I'm sure we will all be busy preparing for this special time.
I know I will be, so there will be no new creations or shows planned until February next year.

The "Be My Valentine" online show opens 11th February 2011 at 8pm ( Melbourne, Australian Daylight Savings Time ) through till 8pm 14th February.
" No parking, no queues, no entrance fee, no pushing or shoving.....just fun in the comfort of your armchair!"
I will be creating Valentine themed pieces to offer exclusively at this show!

The Perth Doll and Bear Show is on this weekend, I will be there at table 18 with a few of my bears and critters, plenty of kits and patterns and a huge range of collectable bears including Steiff, Hermann, Russ, Robin Rive, World of Miniature Bears, Cotswold and various others.
If you are in the area, it is being held at the Cannington Exhibition Centre, Cnr Albany Hwy & Station Street, Cannington, Perth, Western Australia.

New Website Page Dedicated to You???

I am contemplating adding a new page for those of you that have created a "Russell Bears" bear or critter from my Pattern or Kit range.
For those who would like to share their creations on my website, please feel free to email me your photo, with a few details and I will upload them on a brand new page. Depending on your response, will dictate whether this new page will happen or not as I know time is a big factor in everyone's life these days, but I thought it would be fun to be able to see everyone's creations all on one page.
If you would like to have your Russell Bears creation on display, please email your best photo sized at approximately 500x 500 pixels ( 72 dpi ) to russellbears@gmail.com , along with your name, which Russell Bears design, and a few comments if you wish to share some more information. If you have problems resizing your photo, just send it anyway and I will do it for you.
I look forward to your thoughts on this and hopefully we will end up with many different bears and critters to see!

Perth Doll & Bear Show 2010

After much consideration, I have decided to trade at the Perth Doll & Bear Show this year, even though I have no new pieces to offer, I will have plenty of patterns and kits along with an ample display of other collectable bears and knick-knacks.
There will also be Antiques and Bric-a-Brac this year which is quite exciting, I am really looking forward to it.
For those of you in Perth who would like to come along, it is at the Cannington Exhibition Centre ( Cnr Albany Hwy & Station St, Cannington ) on the 16th & 17th October, 2010.
Opening times are 10am - 4pm each day, entry fees are Adult $5, Child/Pensioner $3 and Family $10.

I have not posted for a while, and I can't say I have been very productive either....where does the time go????

I had plans to enter the British Bear Artist Awards, but missed the deadline, wanted to make my first Halloween piece....don't think that's gonna happen, not to mention working on some new designs that are brewing in my head!

Hmmm, thought I was organised, but with only about 3 months to Chrissy, I think I'd better get back to my orders......pronto!!!!

However, I have managed to get my Reggie Rabbit Kits organised, so there will also be a another choice for the lucky winner of the Kit Draw on the 3rd of October.

Looking Ahead in 2010!

Hi guys, well Easter has come and gone and the time just seems to be flying by for me so quickly, that I thought I would share my upcoming plans for the next few months ahead.

For those of you patiently waiting for any new creations, I am planning to work on a couple during the month of May, with a "Cory" inspired panda in mind and a Fantasy Critter to be introduced to coincide with the "Fantasy Ball" Online Show.
I had big plans for this online show, but unfortunately, time got away from me, due to other commitments and I had to withdraw from both the competition and the actual online show. However, I have been so inspired by the theme of the show that I will endeavour to have a brand new critter available around the end of May!

June and July is dedicated to another order and show exclusives for my hometown "in the fur" bear show in Perth ( details below ), this is the only show I will be attending this year, and after that, orders will have to become my priority once again.

For my ever patient collectors that are waiting for "Antonio" and "Casper", ( you know who you are ) they are nearly completed and will be with you very soon!

Boy, have I been a busy bear lady lately, as well as catching up on orders and finishing a couple of new creations for my website, I haven't been able to do much else due to some much needed renovations that have been happening to my home studio.

It's been a long time coming, lots of hard work, but it's nearly done!

Now I won't be embarrassed anymore taking collectors into my work space, no more yukky old carpet, and no more mess everywhere!!

So guess what I will be doing over the Easter holiday.....

I have already started reorganising and moving stuff back in...

still have to wait another day before the furniture can go back in.....

3 rooms worth of furniture and horded bear stuff is poked in all around the rest of the house, wherever it could fit for the last month...what a mess.....will take some more piccies when it is all done!
I think it's gonna make a big change, nothing like clearing out the old and making room for the new.
I can feel the inspiration brewing already!!!!!!

As mentioned in my last update, I have been trying to consider a fairer way to introduce my new pieces for adoption that takes into account all collectors around the world. I have been discussing this situation with one of my favourite artists, Kathy Myers from Vintage Mink Bears, who also has had this on her mind and she has put something together on her website that you might be interested in taking a look at.

He is a OOAK in a series and also available as a pattern, I have made a total of 5, all in different colours and mohairs and from the very same pattern. Just received my Golden Teddy trophy a few days ago , have had my URSA for a while now and thought I would take some pics to share with you guys. They are both stunning trophies which now have their new home in my special cabinet for safe keeping.

Please meet "Murphy", my new design for the 2010 WA Teddy bear Challenge!

Both of them are also wearing my new signature scroll tags around their necks, the first bears in 2009 to have them.

They will be on display at the Teddy Tree bear shop in Perth, Western Australia as of next week and the pattern will be available to purchase in the New Year.

At Last I'm Getting Organised!!

Well here they are, my new design, I'm pretty happy that they tie in the whole Russell Bears theme now.....I'm still working on my signature swing tags, but I think they are turning out really cute.
I am hoping to post them soon hanging around the neck of a new bear design that will be available as a pattern, and for those here in Oz, a competition scheduled for the middle of next year!!!
All the details will be available soon, so there will be plenty of time to get your entries completed on time.

"End of an Era"....Well, Sort of!!!

What a dilema this little problem has caused me, I have been dreading this moment, but the time has come for change!!
My little wooden teddy swing tags that have been part of every Russell Bears creation to date, are no more! I can't get them anymore, and the last one I had belongs to "Fergus" ( pictured below ), and now what am I going to do, they have been a part of my creations since the very first bear!
I have not been able to find anything that suits so far, so have decided to make my own, I have everything I need to start, just need a spare moment to see if it will work out ok!
Will keep you posted as to how it turns out, so please cross your fingers and toes for me, and I hope to show you the new Russell Bears swing tag soon!
Wish me luck...I might need it!!!!

"Kouro" has won his category in this years Australian Bear Creations Awards - Thank you for your votes!

He is from my "Best Friends" range and was created from photographs especially for the proud owner of the real Kouro, the Alaskan Malamute.

In a few weeks time I will be starting a Jack Russell terrier named "Casper" as a commissioned piece, I'm really looking forward to creating him as he is such a little character!
